Hey everyone. It’s been a year since I started self-publishing, so I guess now is a good time for an update. I’m gonna look back on the last year and look a bit to the future.
Last year
I had a great first year. I managed to publish 15 stories along with 3 short story collections, so I’m very happy with that. I’ll talk a little about each book below.
Dating Rules
My very first book. Well, first published book. To share a little behind the scenes secret, my original outline had ten dates. I had a plan for something to happen on each date. As I was writing, I realized it was getting way too long, so I changed my plan to four dates. And then to one date. But I’m still very happy with it. I think that one date tells a coherent story with a nice beginning, middle and satisfying ending.
In the back of my mind, I am considering writing those other dates too. But the thing is that I wrote Lara to be very naive and innocent. She also has a very close relationship with her parents. Those two things don’t really match with the stuff I planned for potential sequels, and it would be very jarring to suddenly change them in a sequel.
Sub Secretary
Still a big fan of this story. It’s a lot shorter and simpler, and I think my meta-comedy shines through very well. I have some vague ideas about writing a sequel with ‘secretary training’ scenes, but no solid plans for now.
The CMNF Pool Party and the Topless Pool
The start of the Mindy series. I’d been thinking about writing a little CMNF-themed story for a while already. I couldn’t decide which idea was hotter though. Is it more fun having public sex with an appreciative audience, or is part of the thrill the fear that you may get caught? Eventually, I ended up developing both ideas into standalone stories, and that became my first series.
Stripping for his Friends and the Submissive Bride
After taking a bit of a break, I decided I didn’t quite like where I left Mindy. I wanted to end Mindy’s story with a bang (literally), so I ended up writing a big finale where they get married. First, I laid the groundwork with the bachelor party and then I did the marriage. I quite like where I left this story, so there probably won’t be any more releases here.
Sub Wife Daily Life
This was an odd story. As I was writing it, I could never quite get the middle part right. The beginning and the end flowed perfectly though. In fact, the end flowed so well it just kept going and going. So eventually I decided the ending was a pretty good start too and I wrote Vol 1 and Vol 2. The original beginning was reworked as a standalone prequel (Vol 0).
I definitely don’t feel like I’m finished with this series yet, so there might be some more sequels coming.
My Locked Roommate
Still one of my favorite stories. It’s the first (and so far only) book I wrote in first person male perspective. I had a lot of fun with it. I definitely want to write more in this style, but it’s difficult to do. A lot of ideas I have just don’t match with it.
With a male perspective it’s quite hard to get the balance right. Make them too confident and they quickly read like some manipulative psycho. Not confident enough and you’ve got a loser.
Pretty Panties
This story bombed pretty hard. I guess I can see why. It’s a very simple plot and it doesn’t fit neatly into an existing niche. When people write about sexy underwear, it’s usually from a sissy POV, not a female POV. But I still quite like it. There’s something very sexy about ‘tomboy girls’ discovering a more feminine, submissive side.
Harem Academy Dream
My very first novel. This was a lot of work, but it was very rewarding too. It’s nice to write something a bit more… ambitious.
This is a bit of a different genre though. And I think I screwed myself over a bit by putting ‘harem’ in the title. I’m pretty sure Amazon classified it as erotica because of that, and now the regular haremlit readers have trouble finding my book, and the erotica readers prefer shorter reads that are more focused on erotica.
Faye’s Checkup
So, a little behind the scenes secret. Originally, this was a draft for Dating Rules 2. Lara would need to do a little health checkup before she could go on her second date. But that didn’t quite work. It didn’t make much sense to me that Ethan would let another man touch Lara like that. And with a female doctor it just didn’t work. But the medical idea was kinda hot, so I eventually reworked this into a standalone story. A story I’m very satisfied with.
Forest Encounter
This story was based on something else initially too. It was gonna be the opening scene of a sci-fi novella. But it didn’t quite work, because opening like that messed up the flow of the story. So eventually, all of it was cut. But I quite liked the ideas of the original forest scene, so those were developed further into a smaller story. With a nice little twist in it as well.
Future
New stories
Yes, I know I said I was planning to release a short story at the end of May, but as you might have noticed, it didn’t happen. I got distracted by some other projects and my current ‘main project’ might turn out to be a lot longer than I originally planned.
I am making progress on various stories, so there is definitely more coming. Most of the stuff I’m working on right now is shorter erotica and maybe some novellas. There might also be a sci-fi erotic novella coming, we’ll see.
For my fantasy haremlit novels, or I guess I should say novel, I do have plans for a sequel to Harem Academy Dream. But writing a novel is a ton of work and it’s difficult to find the time to work on it. And I like to take a bit of a break between stories. So the sequel is probably gonna be put on hold for a bit longer while I work on other stuff.
Fanfics
I’m not sure if I’m gonna release a lot of fanfiction this year. I mean, I could get inspired by House of the Dragon season 2. If Daemon and Rhaenyra have another moment with obvious sexual tension, I might not have a choice.
I do have a couple of older drafts that I might work on. There’s some Harry Potter stuff, a little Big Bang Theory and a short Aladdin story that I want to finish. So hopefully maybe look forward to that.
Future updates
I am planning to share a bit more behind the scenes stuff. But I’m still working on a good format to do it in. I have some ideas, so there might be some news on that soon.
For now, if you have any questions, feel free to put them in the comments or contact me with the form on this site.
Lastly, thanks to everyone who read, bought, reviewed, rated, and/or recommended my books. I really appreciate it. I couldn’t do this without all of you.
Until next time,
Aren
